A Whole-Person Wellness Assessment of Staff and Older Adults in Community and Senior Living Environments

Time: Tuesday 3/16 8:00 to 9:30 a.m.
This session will describe a comprehensive wellness assessment process conducted with staff and older adults. The tool elicits information about current participation levels in six dimensions of wellness, stage of readiness for change, self-efficacy, and satisfaction. Discussion will focus on how this tool can assist individuals with making lifestyle changes, how to measure these changes over time, and how the results can help staff create a wellness culture for their residence.

A Review of Whole-Person Wellness: Learning from 23 Senior Living Communities

The Wellness Opportunities Review project identified and shared best practices in wellness at Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRC’s). Twenty three in-depth interviews were conducted with staff from CCRC’s identified as innovative in the area of wellness. The organizations included represent a diverse group of senior living communities across the United States including multi- and single site organizations, as well as for-profits and non-profit entities. In this session, you will learn about wellness best-practices in CCRC’s and organizational issues related to wellness programing and evaluation, as well as learn what CCRC’s define as their greatest challenges related to whole-person wellness.
Taking Care of Me: A Self-Help Education Program for Grandparents Caring For Grandchildren
Time: Wednesday 3/17: 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Presenters: Perry Edelman Ph.D., Karen Kolb, M.A., RFG, and Dawn Lehman, Ph.D.
This session will describe a new program that enables grandparents caring for grandchildren to improve their self-care with a set of skills and tools. The session will include a facilitated discussion of the issues grandparents face. The outcome evaluation research design, measures, and preliminary results will be presented.

A Large Scale Train-the-Trainer Program in Person Centered Care
Time: Wednesday 3/17 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.

This session shares results of a two-phase Person-Centered Care train-the-trainer program funded by the Retired Religious Foundation implemented with the National Retired Religious Organization Institutes in terms of staff knowledge, attitudes, and practice. It also provides an examination of the successes and challenges in evaluating a large-scale train-the-trainer program. Additionally, you will learn the results of our evaluation of this program.
