Chicago Tribune: Research links arteries and falls

by Dan Broderick on July 2, 2010

The buildup of cholesterol in arteries can cause a plethora of problems in older adults. One of which includes the ability to respond to changes in blood pressure. A study published by the Neurology journal suggests that these individuals are 70% more likely to have suffered a fall.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that over a third of adults, aged 65 and older, fall each year. Approximately 30% of these individuals must receive hospital care.  This can lead to a permanent residence in a nursing home.
